About Jennifer
I support adults navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the lasting impact of trauma.

Hello, I’m Jennifer Phyper (she/her), a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who supports individuals navigating a variety of psychological and emotional challenges, with a special focus on healing from relational and betrayal trauma, as well as acute or single-incident experiences such as MVAs. I also assist with life transitions and personal growth.

From a young age, I felt a strong calling to help others and challenge the stigma surrounding mental health challenges. I've also always been deeply fascinated by resilience, particularly what makes one person resilient while another struggles, and how compassion and connection are key factors in healing and growth.
I earned an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto in 2006 and pursued postgraduate studies in Behavioural Science Technology at George Brown College in 2008.
In 2007, my uncle gave me The Brain That Changes Itself by Dr. Norman Doidge, a book that introduced me to the fascinating science of neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to change and heal. Though newer research has since expanded on its insights, the book’s core message still resonates deeply with me. This discovery sparked a deep curiosity about how we can nurture our own growth and recovery, and it played an important role in my decision to continue my education through postgraduate studies.
I began to see how practices like mindfulness and meditation can gently support the brain in creating new pathways, opening space for resilience, clarity, and emotional healing. Around this same time, as a young adult, I began my own meditation practice, which helped me navigate life’s challenges and deepened my belief in mindfulness as a powerful tool for well-being.
Early in my career, I worked in group homes and community settings as a rehabilitation therapist supporting individuals affected by traumatic injuries from motor vehicle accidents and struggling with severe mental health challenges. These roles gave me firsthand insight into the skills needed for a helping professional.
For nearly twenty years, I have worked in diverse clinical environments, including and inpatient settings at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. These experiences shaped my trauma-informed, compassionate approach to supporting clients.
Balancing family life, I completed my Master of Arts Counselling Degree at Yorkville University and hold certifications in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, and Trauma Professional training from accredited institutions.
I find balance and joy through spending time with family and friends, exploring new music, reading, going on road trips, and enjoying the company of my pup, Lou Dog.
Having lived in Durham Region most of my life, I am honoured to walk alongside my clients, offering a safe, supportive space for healing and growth, both locally and virtually across Ontario.
